Hey friend, I’ve got a question for you.
When do you get your best ideas? Is it on your way home from school? During your morning shower? Right in the middle of practice? My best ideas often come when I’m about to fall asleep. It’s actually kind of annoying! Imagine, you get all snuggled down in your bed, you’re about to drift off and BAM, a great idea comes to mind.
Right when the BAM hits, I have to make a decision. Do I get up and write down this incredible idea, or do I crawl back under the covers and hope I remember it in the morning?
That’s just a silly example, but how often do we do the same thing when God tells us to do something. Maybe He says, “Hey, go talk to the new kid over there. They just moved in and they’ve got no friends at school now. I want you to eat lunch with him/her today.” Or maybe He’s been calling you to change something in your life and you’ve just been putting it off.
Check out this passage in Isaiah: Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” [God] said, “Go…” Isaiah 6:8
When you say, “Yes” to God as your Savior, remember that His timing is not the same as yours. He will ask us to do things that make us uncomfortable. He’ll ask us to get up and “go” when we just got comfy. When Isaiah volunteered for a mission, God said, “go” right away.
When God gives you something this new year, jump on it! Don’t diddle around or wait too long. God WANTS us to be a part of His plan for the world in 2013, but He wants us to listen to His timing.
So when do you get your best ideas? Was there a time when you said “yes” to God and He asked you to do something you never expected?
