When will there be a live show in my area?
In short, the answer is Project 434. You see, Silver Ring Thing does not currently have a full-time team to do the live shows in southern Africa. The few live shows that do take place are graciously presented by past team members on a volunteer basis. As and when live shows are organised, these will be announced in the monthly e-mail update, called PostCards (subscribe today by sending an email to email@example.com), on Facebook (Group: Silver Ring Thing Africa), on Twitter (SRTafrica) and on this website, www.silverringthing.co.za. As these live shows will happen very infrequently it is not recommended that you hold out for a live show. Instead, do Silver Ring Thing’s Project 434 – that is what is has been designed for! Do Project 434 and get your ring, for groups, individual students and individual parents.
How do I arrange a live show in my community?
Silver Ring Thing does not currently have a full-time team to do the live shows in southern Africa. The few live shows that do take place are graciously presented by past team members on a volunteer basis. Do you have the influence, capacity and audience to host a Silver Ring Thing live event in your community? If so, contact our volunteer live show co-ordinator, Charl van Wyk, on email address firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss possibilities.
How old do you have to be to attend a Silver Ring Thing show or participate in Project 434?
The Silver Ring Thing Live Show and Project 434 are designed to reach senior primary and high school students, as these are the years during which they are forced to make decisions about their sexuality. Ideally, 12+ year old is the earliest we suggest. College and university students and young adults are also encouraged to attend, as many find the program content both relevant and engaging to their age group. In fact, our expereince has shown that the SilverRing Thing message is helpful to persons at all ages. There is thus no age limit on attending live shows or participating in Project 434 – all are welcome!
What about students who are already sexually active?
All of us have messed up or made mistakes in one way or another. At Silver Ring Thing we address this question in the Second Virginity message which speaks directly to the issues and problems that sexually active students have encountered. We recognise the fact that many students who participate in the Silver Ring Thing are, or have been, sexually active and they need to know it is possible to start over. We speak plainly on the forgiveness and love Jesus Christ offers to change your future. The answer is YES YOU CAN START OVER and, in fact, for this reason many students attend our program.
What happens after you make a commitment and put on a ring? How do you deal with temptation?
Once a person puts on the ring, the second phase of the Silver Ring Thing begins. It is impossible for a person not to be tempted, and we want to be available whenever needed. The silver ring and the abstinence pledge are a critical first step. The second main support base should be the student’s local church. Thirdly, Silver Ring Thing provides ongoing support including a local Facebook Group, a weekly Twitter encouragement message, e-mail responses to queries, the Project 434 Program, latest news on the Silver Ring Thing Southern Africa website and more.
I’ve heard about ‘soul ties’ after having sex with someone – what is that all about?
When speaking of soul ties, most of the time, it is in regards to a bond that is made between two people when they are physically intimate with one another. The description below describes it pretty well. After reading it, remember what I John 1:9 says “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
From Nancy Leigh Demoss’s website (http://www.reviveourhearts.com//radio/roh/today.php?pid=9951):
I Corinthians 6:17-18. “It says, “But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him. Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.”
Because we are the temple of the Holy Spirit, we are not only harming God, but we’re harming this temple that God has given us. Sexual sin is like no other sin. When we sin sexually, it’s like there’s a tie that connects us to the other person, and those soul ties have to be cut.
So I encouraged the young woman who was sitting in my living room to confess to God. When we confess our sins, He is always faithful to forgive our sins and to cleanse us (see 1 John 1:9). So she just went down and named her sins. She said, “God, I confess this. I thought I had, but I see I really haven’t. And God, I want You to cut that part of me that I connected to him and remove it forever, because I want only to be connected to You and my husband.” After she prayed, she was flooded with the forgiveness of God and began to walk in a new way in her marriage.
I always tell women, “If you are continually assaulted in your mind by pictures and thoughts of what was in your past, you know, if you’ve asked for forgiveness, that those thoughts are not from God. They are being hurled at you from the evil one, and you need to do exactly what Jesus did when He was tempted in the wilderness. You speak Scripture. You say, ‘I am forgiven,’ and you hurl it back at the enemy. You say, ‘Get behind me, Satan. I am not going to go there in my mind. I am not going to listen to your taunts. I am new.’”
How can I know if we are going too far?
One question we can ask ourselves to help determine if we are going too far in our relationships is this… “At this moment, are my actions honoring the Lord?” If you answer yes… you are not going too far. If you answer no…you are going too far and that does not please the Lord. If you are unsure, ask God! Ask Him where you should be drawing the line. Draw it only where you feel totally comfortable. If you have any uncertainty or being even slightly uncomfortable it could be the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Listen to His Voice. Also, remember that when we have accepted Jesus as our Savior our sins are forgiven…past, present, and future! We do need to confess our sins to God to restore our relationship with HIM. I John 1:9 says “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Another piece of advice is this… Have an accountability partner (a trusted friend of the same sex). One who believes in waiting too. Let this person know that you and your boyfriend have been struggling in this area and ask her to pray for you and to keep you accountable to living a pure life. The Lord has great plans for you!
I just received a ring but it doesn’t fit right. What can I do?
Save yourself cost and time by having a jeweler determine your ring size FIRST. If you have just received your Silver Ring Thing ring and it is either too big or too small, you can exchange your ring for free if it’s within one month after you purchased the ring from Walk Thru the Bible and it is in ‘new’ condition. It cannot show signs of wear to be considered new. You will be responsible for: 1.) Any shipping costs and risk in returning the ring. 2.) The standard courier fee to re-send the exchanged ring. To arrange your exchange, email email@example.com or call 011-782-4222 for info.
I am having a skin reaction to my ring or there might be something wrong with my ring. What should I do?
If your skin reacts to your Silver Ring Thing ring by turning green or black, don’t be alarmed! This is a common reaction for over 30% of people who wear sterling silver. Simply paint the inside of the ring with clear nail polish once a year and this should clear right up!
I have a question that is not shown here – what do I do?
